VINCENT PRICE - TYPED LETTER SIGNED - HFSID 278989
Price: $380.00
VINCENT PRICE
Price signed this typed letter to a "Hanns" in 1942 and added an
autograph postscript to it in 1942. In it, he apologizes for not responding to
Hanns' letter and updates him on the paucity of acting jobs at the time. This
letter mentions Price speaking to Shepard Traube, a longtime film and Boradway
producer, director and writer, on Hanns' behalf, with less-than-spectacular
results.
Typed letter signed "Vincent", with autograph postscript
signed "V. P.". 1 page, 8 ½ x 11. Oct. 27, 1942. Addressed to
"Hanns". In full: "My Dear Hanns [sic], What a friend you must
think me. I am so sorry to have delayed in answering your very kind letter of
last summer. I have no better excuse to offer than the strenuousness of the
times. My days are so full of one thing or another, I find myself, sadly,
neglecting many of the things I wish most to do. The truth is I heard that the
rehearsals for 'Winter Soldier' were called off, then resumed again for free
performances, so a letter to Shep Traube seemed rather pointless. Sorry about
it, better luck next time and do stop in to see me soon. Sincerely,". Typed
postscript: "P. S. I did talk to Traube about you. At the time, the only
free parts he had were for older men." Autograph postscript: ", and he
discouraged my sending you - I'm really sorry". "Shep Traube" is probably
SHEPARD TRAUBE (1907-1983, born in Malden Massachusetts), a film and
Broadway producer, director and writer. He was also head of the Society of Stage
Directors and Choreographers (SSDC), a stage director and choreographers' union,
for many years, and was founder of the SSDC's Stage Directors and Choreographers
Foundation. Traube's career spanned over four decades, despite his being
blacklisted. WinterSoldier doesn't show up in Traube's Broadway
or film credits. Price wasn't speaking to Traube as an SSDC representative,
either, as the SSDC was founded in 1959. It's worth investigating. A master
of the horror genre, VINCENT PRICE (1911-1993, born Vincent
Leonard Price, Jr. in St. Louis, Missouri) was an American actor with over
170 films and TV shows to his credit between 1938 and 1993. He starred in
such other spine-tingling films as House of Wax (1953), The Fly
(1958), The Fall of the House of Usher (1960), The Pit and the
Pendulum (1961) and The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1971). The actor, also
a veteran of Broadway, stage and serious films, was also a noted art
expert and collector. Price frequently lectured on art and published several
books on the subject. Lightly toned, creased and rippled. Typewriting is lightly
smeared in places but legible; handwriting and signature are untouched. Folded
once horizontally and twice vertically. Otherwise in fine
condition.
