VINCENTE MINNELLI
3x5 card signed by Minnelli
Singature: "Vincente/Minnelli". 4¾x3 card. Vincente Minnelli (1903-1986), born Lester Anthony Minnelli, was an Oscar-winning movie and stage director. Minnelli was a window dresser at Marshall Fields, a photographer's assistant and a costume designer for live shows at Chicago and New York movie houses before breaking into show business as a costume and set designer and stage manager. He broke into Broadway as costume designer for Earl Carroll's Vanites (1930-31) and went on to design costumes and sets for and stage a total of 12 Broadway musicals. Minnelli began in Hollywood as a choreographer in Artists and Models (1937), getting his directorial debut in the low-budget all-black musical Cabin in the Sky (1943). Minnelli brought new levels of sophistication to Hollywood musicals, with efforts like Meet Me in St. Louis (1944); An American in Paris (1951), and Gigi (1958), for which he earned a Best Director Oscar. He also directed comedies and dramas, like Father of the Bride (1950) and 1952's biting The Bad and the Beautiful. Lightly toned and creased, otherwise in fine condition.
