VIOLET HOPSON Sepia 3¼x5¼ photograph signed by the "Dear Delightful Villainess" of silent films Printed Photograph Signed in Ink: "Sincerely/Victoria Hopson". Sepia, 3¼x5¼. Stage and silent movie star Victoria Hopson (1887-1973), born Elma Kate Victoria Karkeek, built a theatrical resume in her native Australia before appearing in her first movie in 1910. (Some sources claim that Hopson was born in California, but this claim was strongly disputed by Hopson herself in a 1921 controversy). After appearing in numerous shorts, Hopson made her first feature film in 1913. A star in the silent era, she played only minor roles in talking films before retiring in 1933. Hopson was a popular actress; her negative screen roles earned her the title "Dear Delightful Villainess." She co-starred with Stewart Rome in several films of the early 1920s, and founded her own production company in 1923. Slightly worn. Mounting residue affixed on verso (no show through). Otherwise, fine condition.
