Written on personalized notecard. October 23, 1964. New York City, New York.
In full: "Thank you so much for your letter. "Polish Profile" is out
of print, but I possess two rather greasy, ill-used second-hand copies - and I
could lend you one of them if you would be kind enough to send it back. -I do
appreciate your defense of me! All the best -". Virgilia Peterson
(1904-1966) was an author, critic, and former moderator of the popular
program Author Meets The Critics (1952-1954); she furthermore
reviewed books for the New York Times and the New York Herald Tribune. After
attending Vassar College, Peterson moved to Europe to study, where she met and
married Prince Paul Sapieha of Poland in 1933, and where she lived for six years
on the prince's estate and later wrote about her life as a Polish princess after
the couple and their family moved to the U.S. in 1940. Her books include
Polish Profile (1940) and A Matter of Life and Death
(1961). Toned. Paper clip stain in top margin. Corners rounded. Slightly
soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
