July 2, 1981. On stationery of Job's Mill, Warminster, Wilts. To "Dear Mr. Croxford" In full: "The little Longleat Book that you mention was written by my husband's first wife around 30 years ago, but I can certainly vouch as to the authenticity of the two signatures-/ Thank you for sending the/cuttings which I return-/ Yours sincerely/ with best wishes". Virginia Penelope Thynne (née Parsons) (1917-2003), Marchioness of Bath VI, was the daughter of Alan Parsons and Viola Tree. She divorced her first husband, David Tennant, the aristocrat and socialite known for founding London's Gargoyle Club, in 1953 and subsequently married Henry Frederick Thynne, thus becoming Lady Bath. Thynne opened his home to the public in 1949, rendering him the first member of the British peerage to take advantage of the commercial potential of his title and property. Also, in 1966, Lord and Lady Bath converted 25 acres of Longleat Park into a wild animal reserve touted as the UK's first safari park. Paper to which letter is affixed contains a typed caption, ink notes, and binding holes along right-hand side. Otherwise, fine condition.
