The dancer and actress writes to John Willis, Editor of Theatre
World, and thanks him for the invitation to the Theatre World Awards
Autograph letter signed: "Virginia Seidel", in blue ink, 5½x6¾
open flat, 5½x3½. Accompanied by original mailing envelope. In part:
"Dear John, Thanks so much for the invitation to the Awards Party. It
brings back wonderful memories to me, I'm hoping I can attend. I will be
rehearsing for "Don't Drink the Water". I don't know what our schedule
will be". Virginia Seidel is an American stage actress who has
appeared in a multitude of productions including Look Me Up,
Take Me Along, Hello Dolly, and her only Broadway
credit as Mrs. Elsie Darling in the 1975-1976 musical revival of Very Good
Eddie, the last of which earned her a Tony Award nomination.
John A. Willis (1916-2010), active in Theatre World from the
beginning, became its chief editor in 1965, holding that position until
2008. Willis is regarded as one of the foremost theatre and film historians
of the 20th century. While producing (and presenting) the annual Theatre World
Awards, Willis also served on the nominating committee for the Tony Awards.
Theatre World, which received its own Tony for Excellence in
Theatre in 2001, continues under chief editor Ben Hodges. Fine
condition.
