Autograph Letter signed: "Amelia Falkland", 2 pages, 3¼x5¼. Affixed at left edge to a 4½x7 piece of paper (2 surfaces). 53 Eaton Place [London], June 24, no year. To "Dear Mr. Lumsden", in full: "The bearer of this note is Mr. Calthorpe, Lord Calthorpe's eldest son and it will oblige Lord Falkland and me extremely if you will show Mr. Calthorpe any attention and kindness during his stay at Bombay. I am dear Mr. Lumsden Yours". Amelia, Lady Fitzclarence, the daughter of British King William IV by his mistress Dorothea Jordan, married Lucius Cary, the 10th Viscount Falkland, in 1836. Lord Falkland, a member of the House of Lords, was Governor of Nova Scotia (1840-1846) and of Bombay (1849-1853. The Lumsden family was influential in the British Army in India and in the civil service there. One vertical and one horizontal fold. Lightly creased. Lightly worn. Adhesive residue at left. Otherwise, fine condition.
