Nine English Actors sign a Great Britain one pound note on the back.
One Pound note signed on verso: "Vivien Leigh", "John Mills", "Stanley Holloway", "Stewart Granger", "Eric Portman", "Anthony Asquith", "Rosamund John", "Dick Gardner", and "Basil Radford", 6x3¼. Signed in facsimile by John Bradley as British Secretary to the Treasury. Depicted in the upper left is King George V who reigned from 1910-1936. LEIGH won Academy Awards for Best Actress in 1939 (Scarlett O'Hara in Gone With the Wind) and 1951 (A Streetcar Named Desire). MILLS (father of Hayley and Juliet), won the 1970 Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor in Ryan's Daughter. HOLLOWAY's best-remembered role was that of Alfred Doolittle in the stage and film versions of My Fair Lady. GRANGER is remembered as a dashing leading man on film. PORTMAN is known for his character roles in films. JOHN's films include The Gentle Sex and Never Look Back. RADFORD co-starred in films including Barnum Was Right, The Lady Vanished and Whisky Galore. ASQUITH, son of the British Prime Minister, directed films from 1928-1964. In 1945, he directed The Way to the Stars, which starred, Mills, John and Radford. Most probably this was signed at the British premiere of The Way to the Stars in 1945. Soiled and creased, shaded mid-vertical fold on verso, tiny hole to left of "One Pound" not touching any signatures on verso.
