Vivien Leigh types a letter to saying that she cannot wait to see
them again.
Typed Letter signed: "Vivien", 1p, 5½x7. Wellington,
England, 1962 March 17. On her personal letterhead to Mr. Arnold
Weissberger. Begins: "Dearest Arnold," In full: "Thank you
so much for your letter. I have just cabled Bobbie about the seats for the 29th,
and look forward so tremendously to seeing you, when we can discuss 'Tovarich'.
I have already written to Cecil saying that I would like you and he to deal with
my contract, and to ask him what my position is with regards to M.C.A. New York.
I could not, and would not wish to do anything without Cecil, as he is my
personal manager. I think I have had all your letters and clippings. Very
thoughtful and sweet of you to send them. Much love till we meet." Vivien
Leigh (1913-1967) won Academy Awards for Best Actress as Scarlett O'Hara in
Gone With the Wind (1939) and as Blanche Dubois in A Streetcar
Named Desire (1951). Clark Gable was the obvious choice for Rhett Butler
but, even after the filming of Gone With the Wind had begun, no one had
been signed to play the part of Scarlett O'Hara. Leigh came to America in
November 1938. On December 21st, she had a screen test for the Scarlett O'Hara
role and on December 25, 1938 she was told by producer George Cukor that she had
secured the part. On January 26, 1939, she began filming Gone With The
Wind. Leigh, who was married to British actor Laurence Olivier from
1940 until their divorce in 1960, was only 53 when she succumbed to a severe
bout of tuberculosis in 1967. File holes at upper margin. Date stamp at upper
left. Fold creases through "i" of Vivien. Otherwise, fine
condition.
