Check No. 1515, drawn on Fields' account at Security-First National Bank of Los Angeles, Hollywood & Cahuenga Branch, payable to Bob Howard for $75. Endorsed: "Bob Howard" on verso. In the year he signed this check, Fields starred as Professor Eustace P. McGargle in the feature film, Poppy. BOB HOWARD was Fields' personal fitness trainer. Red-nosed, gravel-voiced, bottle-hitting American comedian W.C. FIELDS (1880-1946), born William Claude Dukenfield, began his film career in silents. The vaudeville veteran, who appeared in every version of the Ziegfeld Follies from 1915 to 1921, later excelled in such films as David Copperfield (as Micawber), My Little Chickadee (with Mae West) and The Bank Dick. Fields was also a regular performer on Charlie McCarthy's radio shows. Lightly creased with mid-vertical fold, not at signature. Bank stamp on front nicks the lower portion of the "W" of signature, show through of bank stamps on verso at the upper loops of the "W", "C" and "F". Bank cancellation holes, not at signature. Overall, fine condition.
