W.C. FIELDS
Check filled out and signed by the legendary comedian in 1925.
Check filled out and signed: "W.C. Fields", 6½x2¾. New York City,
1925 September 19. Not numbered. Drawn on the Harriman National Bank,
payable to "Cash" for $300. Endorsed on verso: "Linelle
Blackburn". In 1925, Fields appeared in two films, Sally of the
Sawdust and That Royle Girl. Red-nosed, gravel-voiced,
bottle-hitting American comedian W.C. Fields (1880-1946), born William
Claude Dukenfield, began his film career in silents. He later excelled in
such films as David Copperfield (as Micawber), My Little Chickadee
(with Mae West) and The Bank Dick. The vaudeville veteran, who
appeared in every version of the Ziegfeld Follies from 1915 to 1921, made his
last film, Sensations of 1945, in 1944. Nobody contributed more wry
quotations (such as "Anyone who hates children and animals can't be all bad.")
to American folklore. Slightly creased, light vertical crease between the "C"
and the "F" of Fields. Bank cancellation holes and stamp at two lines of writing
and just nicking the "W". Fine condition.
