Autograph Letter signed: W. Harrison Ainsworth", 1p, 4½x3¾. Kensal Lodge, Harrow Road,
[London], 1845 May 21. To "My dear Sir". In full: "Can you oblige me with a box for
Saturday? Very truly yours." The publisher of "Ainsworth's Magazine" (1842-1853),
AINSWORTH (1805-1882) is best known for his popular historical romances, including
Tower of London, Guy Fawkes, Lancashire Witches and Boscobel, several illustrated by
George Cruikshank. His novels, though less well remembered today, resembled those of Sir
Walter Scott. At Kensal House, he entertained leading literary figures of his day, Charles
Dickens included. Lightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
