agreeing to a dinner date.
Third Person Autograph Note Signed: "Mr. Harrison Ainsworth"
in text, 1p, 4½x7. Printed letterhead with Latin motto "Vi et Virtute". Kemp
Town, Brighton, 1863 May 19. In full: "Mr. Harrison Ainsworth will have
the honor of dining with Mr. S. W. Henry Blanshaw on Tuesday, June the 2nd, at a
quarter before 8 o'clock." The publisher of "Ainsworth's Magazine"
(1842-1853), Ainsworth (1805-1882) is best known for his popular historical
romances, including Tower of London, Guy Fawkes, Lancashire
Witches and Boscobel, several illustrated by Cruikshank. Lightly
creased and soiled. ½-inch separation at blank left margin at upper horizontal
fold, ¾-inch paper loss at upper blank left margin. Overall, fine
condition.
