W. KAYE LAMB
As Canada's National Librarian he extends thanks for a donated book about the Comox Valley.
Typed Letter signed: "W. Kaye Lamb", 1 page, 8½x11. Ottawa, Canada, 1967 July 27. On letterhead of the National Library of Canada to J. Barrett Gilmer, San Diego, California. In full: "Thank you very much for your letter of July 21, and for the copy of the reprint of Eric Duncan's Fifty-Seven Years in the Comox Valley that accompanied it. I am very glad to have this copy for the National Library, and I appreciate it all the more in view of the fact that the reprint is being issued in an edition of only a hundred copies. The illustrations by Miss Niles add to the interest and attractiveness of the little book, and your own foreword and the editorial from the Vancouver Sun give the new edition an importance and individuality of its own. I presume you have seen Mr. Duncan's full-length book, From the Shetlands to Vancouver Island, which appeared in 1937. I read it with interest when it first appeared. When opportunity offers please convey my thanks to the friends in Comox who were good enough to suggest that you should send me a copy of the new reprint. Yours sincerely". William Kaye Lamb (1904-1999), a Canadian historian specializing in British Columbia, wrote and edited a number of scholarly books. A former President of the British Columbia Historical Federation and the Province's Archivist, he was Canada's first National Librarian (1953-1967). He was honored as an Officer of the Order of Canada in 1969. Multiple mailing folds. Lightly toned at edges. Corners lightly creased. Otherwise, fine condition.
