B/w, 10x8 overall, image 9½x6¼ (one surface). Scene from the 1984 Frank Oz
film, The Muppets Take Manhattan, in which Barnes appeared as a customer
at Sardi's. On verso, Barnes has written a synopsis of the scene,
signed: "Wade Barnes". In full: "Scene from 'The Muppets
take Manhattan'/The man on the left is Col Seaman, former head of the Air Force
Academy at Colorado Springs, the middle man is me, Wade Barnes. The girl with
the napkin over her face is Ruth Batton, a delightful actress. The girl on the
right is another delightful actress and I don't remember her name." The
actress Barnes was unable to identify is possibly Jane Hunt, who is also
credited as a customer at Sardi's. Wade Barnes (born in 1917), who was a
composer, songwriter, pianist and author as well as an actor, began his
career as a radio announcer. He appeared in several feature films in the
1980s, including Stardust Memories (1980), Cold River (1981),
Easy Money (1983), The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) and
The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985). Three full signatures of Barnes.
