This letter to the CEO of Gallery of History, Inc. is signed by the actor and describes his small claims to fame, including the use of his head for artistic purposes
Typed letter signed: "Regards,/Wade Barnes" in blue ink. 8½x11. June 25, 1984, New York City, written on Barnes Associates, Inc. letterhead to Todd Axelrod. In part: "Your interesting letter is very complimentary indeed; however, I am wondering how you got my name. While I have been "famous" in my own way in many places, I am not the international figure you intimate. I have been a good radio announcer, writer, composer, lyricist, play-wright, actor, public relations man, pianist/organist; but none of these accomplishments have received wide exposure to me personally. ... My head is a part of a book called "Head Shots" by Alex Kayser and years ago my head was hung in the Smithsonian as part of an exhibition of Paul Gittings work." Wade Barnes (b. 1917), who was a composer, songwriter, pianist and author as well as an actor, began his career as a radio announcer. He appeared in several feature films in the 1980s, including Stardust Memories (1980), Cold River (1981), Easy Money (1983), The Muppets Take Manhattan (1984) and The Purple Rose of Cairo (1985). Normal mailing folds. Corners rounded slightly. Address on bottom of sheet scratched out with blue ink. Original mailing envelope included. Otherwise, fine condition.
