WADE BOGGSSigned commemorative envelope showing Boggs hitting for the Red Sox in their #1 nightmare game of all time Commemorate Envelope signed: "Wade Boggs", 6½x3½. Envelope with color cachet showing Boggs getting a hit in Game 6 of the 1986 World Series, postmarked New York, N.Y., October 25, 1986, 22-cent US flag stamp affixed. Boggs played 18 Major League seasons, mostly with the Boston Red Sox. His hitting was phenomenal: five batting titles, 7 consecutive seasons with over 200 hits (the most of any player in the 20th century), a career in which he reached base in 80% of his games and a lifetime .328 batting average. In his final season, he joined the elite 3,000-hit club. Not a natural fielder, Boggs worked hard at 3B and won two Gold Gloves at the hot corner late in his career. He made 12 consecutive All-Star teams (1985-1996) and was a first ballot Baseball Hall of Famer in 2005. Before the Red Sox finally broke the alleged "Curse of the Bambino" to win the World Series in 2004, they had come heartbreakingly close to the world title several times since 1918. Of all the unhappy moments over those years (The seventh games of 1946, 1967 and 1975, the playoff losses of 1948, 1978 and 1983), none matched the game shown here as the ultimate Red Sox nightmare. But Boggs, who played errorless ball and got 3 hits, deserves none of the blame or the shame. Lower right corner creased with roughing of paper on verso of same. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
