Autograph Letter signed: "Waldo Frank", 1 page, 8½x5½. No
place, April 1937. To "My dear Mr. Sarvillian [?], in full:
"I have no private secretary, and it is a lot of trouble for me to pack
books and take them to the P. O. - more trouble than I can afford. I suggest
that you stick this into the book, in lieu of an inscription. Faithfully".
American novelist, historian and social critic Waldo Frank (1889-1967)
was the editor of the influential literary journal The Seven Arts,
until the journal's pacifist stance in World War I ruined it financially.
Frank published his first novel, The Unwelcome Man, in 1917. He was a
frequent contributor to The New Yorker and The New Republic. Frank was the
first President of the League of American Writers. His The Rediscovery
of America (1929) was better received in Latin America than in the US, and
it was there that he exerted his greatest influence in later years. Normal
mailing fold. Lightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
