BEERY (1885-1949, born in Kansas City, Missouri), the younger brother of Noah Beery, Sr., worked in theater before signing his first film contract (1913). Among his memorable movies were The Champ, for which he won a Best Actor Oscar in 1931, Dinner at Eight (1933), Viva Villa and Treasure Island (1934), Barnacle Bill (1941) and Bad Bascomb (1946). He began his career at the age of 16 as an elephant trainer's assistant with the Ringling Bros. circus. Moving to Hollywood, Beery starred in a series of comedy shorts as Sweedie, a Swedish maid. With the advent of sound, he showed his versatility in leading roles and became one of the most popular performers of his time. Among his roles in the 1930s were Pancho Villa, Long John Silver and P.T. Barnum. LOWE (1890-1971, born in San Jose, California) was an American stage, movie and TV actor. Lowe worked as a teacher before joining a stock company in Los Angeles, California. He debuted on the silver screen in 1915's The Wild Olive, the first of over 120 film appearances, and made his Broadway debut in 1917's The Brat, the first of 12 plays on the Great White Way for Lowe. He became a popular leading man in elegant roles, but made a name for himself as the hellraising Sergeant Quirt in the 1927 film version of What Price Glory?. This movie led to several sequels with Lowe and Victor McLaglen as Quirt's rival Flagg, with their signature taglines "Sez you? Sez me!" Lowe made his break into television in 1949; he's probably best known in this medium for his role as David Chase in Front Page Detective (1951). DRAKE (1912-2000, born Frances Dean in New York City) was educated in England and Canada and made her show business debut as a nightclub dancer in London. Drake, who debuted in films in 1933, appeared in a number of features (often as the heroine of a melodrama) through 1942, including Bolero (1934), Les Misérables (1935), Mad Love (1935), The Invisible Ray (1936), Florida Special (1936), The Lone Wolf in Paris (1938), It's a Wonderful World (1939) and The Affairs of Martha (1942). Drake's first husband was a titled Englishman, Lieutenant Cecil John Arthur Howard, to whom she was married from 1939 until his death in 1985. Lightly toned, creased and rippled.
