Secretary. 1p. 6½x9, Washington, D. C., 1961 December 12,
Department of Health, Education and Welfare letterhead. To: Mr. George Sanders,
KPTV, Portland, Oregon. In full: "Dear George: I suppose you were locked in
the Bathroom. Regards," Newspaper journalists Wallace Turner
(1921-2010)and William Lamber, while working for the Portland
Oregonian won a Pulitzer Prize in 1957 for their expose of vice
and corruption in Portland involving municipal officials and officers of the
International Brotherhood of Teamsters, Chauffeurs, Warehousemen and Helpers of
America, Western Conference. During the investigation, Turner became associated
with Bobby Kennedy and ended up working in public relations in the Department of
Health, Education and Welfare (early 1960s) during the Kennedy administration.
Turner worked as a correspondent for the New York Times from the 1960s
through the 1980s. Horizontal fold crease passing through signature. Lightly
soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
