WALLY FROMHART
The head football coach of the University of Detroit is shown from
the chest up in this youthful 3¾x5 black and white photograph.
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Eddie/With my kindest/regards
Wally Fromhart", B/w, 3¾x5. Wallace Leo Fromhart (1913-2002) was a
college football player and coach. He played football in college at the
University of Notre Dame. In 1936 he was drafted by the Green Bay
Packers but decided to play another season with the Fighting Irish. He
served in the Merchant Marines during World War II and after he returned
Fromhart accepted a job as head football coach at Loras College in Dubuque,
Iowa. In 1951 he took an assistant coaching position at the University of
Detroit and he became head coach of the team in 1954. He coached the
Detroit Mercy until 1958, leaving with a record of 19-25-2. Slightly
creased. Slightly soiled. Lightly frayed at bottom edge. Otherwise, fine
condition.
