Pitkin/Feb. 10, 1922" by Walter Pitkin and "Here's to Pat Reilly's/dancing school! Long/may it flourish/Mary Gray Pitkin". 1 page, 5½x8½, binder holes along left edge. American philosopher and author WALTER B. PITKIN (1878-1953), born Walter Boughton Pitkin, was a psychology and philosophy lecturer (1905-1909) a professor of journalism (1912-1943) at Columbia University, but is probably best remembered for publishing a series of self-help books, including The Psychology of Happiness (1929) and Life Begins at 40 (1932). He also wrote A Short Introduction to the History of Human Stupidity (1932), which was translated into 15 languages. MART GRAY PITKIN was his wife. Lightly toned. Lightly discolored at right edge; discoloration touches signatures. Otherwise in fine condition.
