The winner of three of the first five Academy Awards for Best Supporting
Actor in 1936 (Come and Get It), 1938 (Kentucky) and 1940
(The Westerner), Brennan was also nominated in 1941 for Sergeant
York. Caption on verso: "Walter Brennan as Lanky Smith in
Universal's drama of the early west, 'Saint Johnson'." The 1932 film Law
and Order, later reissued as Guns A'Blazing, was based on William R.
Burnett's novel, Saint Johnson. This photo was issued by Universal
before the film was released as Law and Order. The line "Here's
looking at you kid" was uttered by Humphrey Bogart in Casablanca
(1942). In 1944, Brennan and Bogart costarred in To Have and Have
Not. Fingerprint smudges at lower right background. Overall, fine
condition.
