WALTER CRONKITE (1916-2009) joined CBS News in 1950 and was the anchorman and managing editor of the CBS Evening News from 1962-1981. A reporter since 1939, he had been chosen (by lot) to be the only newsman to cover the June 6, 1944 Normandy invasion from the air. Long considered "the most trusted man in America," Cronkite has remained active with documentaries and special public affairs programs, including hosting the Kennedy Center Honors for many years. Cronkite, who was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 1981, published his autobiography, A Reporter's Life, in 1997. Written at dark area, but adequate contrast. Lightly creased at blank margins and corners. Minor surface creases (most not evident head on). Pencil notes (unknown hand) on verso (no show through). Overall, fine condition.
