Photograph signed: Walter Cronkite". B/w, 8x10. Walter
Cronkite (1916-2009) joined CBS News in 1950 and was the anchorman and
managing editor of the CBS Evening News from 1962-1981. A reporter
since 1939, he had been chosen (by lot) to be the only newsman to cover the
June 6, 1944 Normandy invasion from the air. Long considered "the most
trusted man in America," When Cronkite returned from Vietnam in 1968 with a
newly critical view of the war there, President Johnson reportedly remarked, "If
I've lost Cronkite, I've lost the country." Cronkite remained active with
documentaries and special public affairs programs, including hosting the
Kennedy Center Honors for many years. He was awarded the Presidential
Medal of Freedom in 1981 and published his autobiography, A Reporter's
Life, in 1997. Fine condition.
