WALTER ANNENBERG
Annenberg writes to Phyllis Diller regarding his admiration!
Typed Letter signed: "Walter", 1p, 6x9. St. David's Pennsylvania, 1996 October 4. On personal letterhead to actress and comedienne Phyllis Diller. In full: "My knowledge of art permits me to know that a serigraph is an original silk screen print and for you to have sold this original hat for a $14,000 pocketing tells us that your talents continue to be many. While there may be women admiring you, there will are also be plenty who will be envious of you. Phyllis, I happen to admire you. Sincerely". Walter Annenberg (1908-2002), media mogul, philanthropist and one-time U.S. Ambassador to Great Britain (1968-1974), headed Triangle Publications, the publisher of "TV Guide", "Seventeen" and "The Daily Racing Form". He sold the firm to Rupert Murdoch for over $3 billion in 1988. Annenberg was one of the most generous philanthropists of all time. He endowed the Annenberg School(s) of Communication at Penn and Southern Cal and bequeathed $150 million to the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. In 1991 he donated his art collection, valued at over $1 billion, to New York's Metropolitan Museum. Annenberg was awarded the Medal of Freedom by his close personal friend, Ronald Reagan.
