WALTER HIERS
7½x9½ sepia image of the vaudeville and silent film comedian, inscribed "Fatfully
yours." A very rare signature!
Inscribed photograph signed: "To Wilma Ahlgrin;/With my heartiest wishes-/"Fat"fully
yours-/Walley Hiers", in purple ink, Sepia 7½x9½. Vaudeville and silent film actor Walter
Hiers (1893-1933) starred in 101 films, mostly comedies, between 1912 and 1932. The
235-pound actor starred as Rusty Snow in the now-lost horror comedy The Ghost
Breaker (1922), a film remade with Bob Hope in 1940. Further weight gains, and the advent
of sound, curtailed his career, and he died in obscurity - of pneumonia - at age 39. The current
releases he lists are all from 1921, except for Oh! Lady! Lady! (1920). Lightly silvered.
Inscription and signature bled. Corners and edges lightly worn. Surface creasing. Pencil notes
(unknown hand) on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
