Los Angeles, California, 1957 October 1. Standard AFTRA contract between
Winchell and Yorkshire Productions, Inc. for his appearance on Kraft Music
Hall on November 15, 1957, for the amount of $3000. Plus round-trip
first-class air fare Los Angeles-New York and $50.00 a day expenses. The
"father of the newspaper gossip column", which he pioneered in the 1920s,
Walter Winchell (1897-1972) created such phrases as "scram", "pushover"
and "belly laughs". He also was a familiar voice on radio from 1929
through the mid-1950s, punctuating his staccato delivery with the sound of
teletype keys. Winchell later narrated the television series, The
Untouchables (1959-1963). Staple in place at upper left corner, additional
staple holes present. Two filing holes at top edge. Left corner missing. Lightly
creased. Edges lightly toned. Bottom edge nicked 1½ from right corner.
