Check signed and endorsed: "Walter Winchell" and "Walter
Winchell" on verso, 8¼x3¼. New York City, 1966 November 4. Check No.
34676, drawn on his account at the Irving Trust Company, New York City, payable
to Cash for $200.00. The "father of the newspaper gossip column", which
he pioneered in the 1920s, Walter Winchell (1897-1972) created such
phrases as "scram", "pushover" and "belly laughs". He also was a familiar
voice on radio from 1929 through the mid-1950s, punctuating his staccato
delivery with the sound of teletype keys. Winchell later narrated the
television series, The Untouchables (1959-1963). Lightly creased.
Bank cancellations and stamps affecting "Walt" of signature. Slightly soiled at
lower blank areas. Overall, fine condition.
