Typed Letter signed: "Walter Winchell". 1p. 8 ½ x11, New
York, New York, 1933 February 1 on Daily Mirror letterhead. In full:
"Dear Miss Martin: Thank you very much for your kind words about my stuff.
I'm glad you like it. Good wishes to you, too!
sincerely" The "father of the newspaper gossip
column", which he pioneered in the 1920s, Walter Winchell (1897-1972)
created such phrases as "scram", "pushover" and "belly laughs". He also was a
familiar voice on radio from 1929 through the mid-1950s, punctuating his
staccato delivery with the sound of teletype keys. Winchell later narrated
the television series, The Untouchables (1959-1963). Normal mailing
folds. Paperclip crease and rust at top center - affecting letterhead address.
