On letterhead of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research to William Stanhope, Albuquerque, New Mexico. In full: "Thank you for your letter asking for a sketch of myself. In lieu of a sketch I've enclosed an autographed picture with the hope that it will suffice. [Item not included.] Good luck with your interesting endeavor. Sincerely". Astronomer and pioneer climatologist Walter Orr Roberts (1915-1990) was the first director of the National Center for Atmospheric Research and the first president of the University Corporation for Atmospheric Research. He was based in Boulder, Colorado. Roberts discovered the relationship between solar flares and terrestrial radio reception, and he was among the first to warn that human technology was changing the Earth's climate.
