WALTER PIDGEON
He signs a typed letter thanking author James Curtis for a gift copy of Riding Old Trails.
TLS: "Walter Pidgeon", 1 page, 7¼x10¼, affixed to black sheet of same dimensions. Los Angeles, California, 1977 January 2. On his personal letterhead to Mary & Jim Curtis, Country Press Publishing, Fruita, Colorado. In full: "If this note seems a bit late, I must explain that I've been away from Los Angeles for a short time - and found your letter and 'Riding Old Trails' waiting for me when I got home. Haven't had chance to sit down and get into it, but intend to the first opportunity that comes my way - and thank you so much for sending me this copy. As for my consternation at realizing what I had gotten into at that Highland Park Tavern - I rather imagine many a neophyte Senator has had the same reaction on taking his first good look around at where his ambitions have landed him. Thank you again for 'Old Trails' and my best wishes for you both in the New Year." Riding Old Trails, by James Curtis, was published in 1976. Canadian actor Walter Pidgeon (1898-1984), who had his first leading roles in silent films, earned Best Actor Academy Award nominations for Mrs. Miniver (1942) and Madame Curie (1943).He had prominent roles in many other successful films, including How Green Was My Valley (1941), The Bad and the Beautiful (1952), Forbidden Planet (1956), Advise and Consent (1962) and Funny Girl (1968). Pidgeon received a Tony nomination as Best Actor in a Musical for Take Me Along (1960). Letter loosened from mounting sheet at several points on both edges, causing some paper loss at margins. Mounting adhesive shows through lightly at corners. Overall, fine condition.
