WALTER REED and RICHARD "CHITO" MARTIN
Candid photograph of Western stars Walter Reed and Richard "Chito" Martin shown in their later years. (4x6)
Photograph signed: " Walter Reed" and "Richard Martin", in blue ink. Color, 4x6. Candid photo. Actor Walter Reed (1916-2001), born Walter Reed Smith, was the son of an Army officer. He first appeared in stock and on Broadway before breaking into films (with the help of Joel McCrea) in the early 1940s. Reed's films include Military Training (1941), Seven Days' Leave (1942), Return of the Bad Men (1948), Fighter Squadron (1948), Superman and the Mole-Men (1951), Submarine Command (1951), Thunderbirds (1952), War Paint (1953), The High and the Mighty (1954), Hell's Island (1955), The Helen Morgan Story (1957), The Horse Soldiers (1959) and Fort Courageous (1965), and Reed also appeared as a guest star on a long list of television shows, including three appearances on The Adventures of Superman (1952, 1958), as well as on Westerns, sci-fi series and sitcoms. In the late 1960s, after appearing in the made-for-TV movie, Deadlock, and directing the TV film, The Monk, Reed retired from acting to become a real estate investor and broker. Actor Richard "Chito" Martin (1917-1994) was a prominent RKO studio actor, most known as his fabled Irish-Mexican sidekick character "Chito Rafferty." Beginning as a receptionist at MGM, Martin signed with RKO studios in 1942 and went on to appear in over 60 films with the company. He developed the character "Chito" for the 1943 film Bombadier; however, the character turned out to be the perfect toady to Tim Holt who was also signed to RKO. Holt and Martin paired as a duo and filmed 29 movies together, including Hot Lead (1951), Wanderer of the Wasteland (1945) and Wild Horse Mesa (1947). Fine condition.
