WALTER PAYTON, the Chicago Bears' first-round choice and the fourth player selected in the 1975 National Football League Draft, developed into a superstar of unusual dimensions during his 13-season NFL tenure from 1975 to 1987, all of which he spent with the Chicago Bears. The Hall of Famer is the game's all-time leading rusher with 16,726 yards and scored 110 rushing TDs. He was named All-Pro seven times and elected to nine Pro Bowls. Other records Payton held at the time of his retirement included 10 seasons with 1,000 or more yards rushing, 275 yards rushing in one game against Minnesota (1977) and 77 games with more than 100 yards rushing. He was only 45 when he died in 1999. Pro Football Hall of Famer MIKE DITKA was NFL Rookie of Year (1961) and five-time Pro Bowl tight end for the Chicago Bears. As head coach of the Chicago Bears, he won Super Bowl XX (1986). After leaving the Bears in 1992, he worked as a broadcaster at NBC for four years. From 1997-1999, Ditka coached the New Orleans Saints. After his departure from the Saints, Ditka continued his career as a broadcaster and sports analyst and is one of the most well-known sports commentators in the business. JOHNNY UNITAS (1933-2002), considered one of the game's greatest quarterbacks, led the Baltimore Colts to two consecutive NFL crowns (1958, 1959). Player of the Year three times and MVP three times in 10 Pro Bowls, Unitas threw at least one TD pass in 47 straight games. Inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in 1979, he had a career record of 2,830 passes for 40,239 yards and 290 touchdowns. The 5-foot-11, 185-pound Heisman Trophy winner Dorsett was named rookie of the year after gaining 1,007 yards in 208 attempts in 1977. He led all Super Bowl rushers with 66 yards on 15 carries when Dallas beat Denver 27-10. In his 12 NFL seasons, TONY DORSETT gained 12,379 yards, second only to Walter Payton, on 2,936 attempts, and he scored 77 rushing touchdowns while averaging 4.4 yards per carry. His career totals include catching 382 passes for 3,544 yards, 16,326 combined net yards, and 90 touchdowns. He ran a record 99 yards for a touchdown vs. Minnesota in 1983, and was inducted into the Football Hall of Fame in 1994. Heisman Trophy winner and Hall of Famer ROGER STAUBACH joined the Dallas Cowboys as a 27-year-old rookie in 1969 and didn't win the regular quarterbacking job from until his third season in 1971. For the nine seasons he was in command of the potent Cowboys attack, Dallas played in six NFC championship games, winning four of them, and also scored victories in Super Bowls VI and XII. The 6-3, 200-pound Staubach wound up his career after the 1979 season with an 83.4 passing rating, the best mark by an NFL passer up to that time. His career chart shows 1,685 completions in 2,958 passing attempts, which were good for 22,700 yards and 153 touchdowns. Making Staubach particularly dangerous was his ability to scramble out of trouble - his 410 career rushes netted him 2,264 yards for a 5.5-yard average and 20 touchdowns. He led the NFL in passing four times. He was also an All-NFC choice five times and selected to play in six Pro Bowls. Fine condition.
