WALTER WOOLF KING
Promotional photo for One More Spring, inscribed in person to collector Saul Goodman. A rare signature.
Photograph inscribed and signed: "Walter King/Best Wishes". B/w, 8x10. Fox studio promotional photo for the film One More Spring (1935). Walter Woolf King (1899-1984) used his baritone voice in Broadway operettas and musical comedies before moving to film, initially in similar roles. He was billed alternately as Walter King and Walter Woolf before deciding to use all three names. He excelled at another role, too: a swank villains in comedies of the Marx Brothers (A Night at the Opera, 1935) and Laurel and Hardy (Swiss Miss, 1938). He left film for a decade, becoming a theatrical agent, and then returned as a character actor in many TV guest appearances through the 1970s. Saul Goodman (1919-2003), a New York business man by day, pursued his love of film and theatre in the evening, making friends with many celebrities. While other autograph seekers offered album leaves, Goodman presented stars with snazzy photographs, a rarity then, to sign in fountain pen. Minor surface scratched, not visible head-on. Otherwise, fine condition.
