Photograph inscribed and signed: "To -/Sunny with/heaps & heaps of/good wishes for success/& everything/Warner Baxter/1934". B/w, 11x14. Fox Films publicity photograph by Ray Jones (imprinted on verso). In 1934, Baxter starred in six feature films: As Husbands Go, Stand Up and Cheer!, Such Women Are Dangerous, Grand Canary, Broadway Bill and Hell in the Heavens. Former vaudeville performer, Broadway actor and silent film matinee idol Warner Baxter (1889-1951), won the 1930 Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role for playing the Cisco Kid in the 1928 film, In Old Arizona. Baxter, who had broken into silents with a bit part in 1914, would go on to appear in nearly 100 films, including Miss Brewster's Millions (1926), The Great Gatsby (1926), Ramona (1928), The Arizona Kid (1930), Daddy Long Legs (1931), The Cisco Kid (1931), 42nd Street (1933), Dangerously Yours (1933), The Prisoner of Shark Island (1936), Kidnapped (1938), Return of the Cisco Kid (1939), Lady in the Dark (1944) and a series of Crime Doctor films (appearing as Dr. Robert Ordway from 1943-1949). Lightly creased at blank margins and corners, lower left and upper and lower right corners have been chipped away due to tack holes. Tack holes at upper left corner and lower right margin, ½-inch tear at mid-right margin and background. Minor surface creases and impressions (most not evident head on). Glue stains and mounting remnants on verso (no show through). Overall, fine and handsome.
