WARREN VANDERS
The longtime television and film actor writes letter about his favorite experiences in black ink
Autograph letter signed: "Best -/ Warren Vanders" in black ink. 1 page, 8½x11. September 21, 1984. South Pasadena, California. In full: "Dear Todd, Thank you for the interest in my work as an actor. In retrospect, I can say at best, my life as an actor has been an enriching experience and on occasion, a riching one. After more than a hundred t.v. shows, a dozen features, and numerous stage plays, I can recall a role or two that had special significance to me. The first t.v. show was a "Maverick" 59. I had one line, "Indians, hundreds, thousands of them". My favorite guest star role was an award winning "Waltons" episode called, "Dust Bowl Cousins". It received The Directors Guild award as the best t.v. episode of 1973 for a drama. But it is hard to make anymore choices in a strange business. Considering all in all I'd do it again. But the life is a mixed blessing - onward - Success to your project". Originally working as a substitute teacher in California, Warren Vanders (1930-2009) broke into the entertainment business as a character actor, first appearing in the television movie Now is Tomorrow (1958) and going on to become a regular face on T.V. in shows such as Empire (1962-1963), Daniel Booone (1966-1969), Gunsmoke (1962-1973) and How the West Was Won (1978). Vanders also holds many impressive movie credits including The Price of Power (1969), The Tribe (1974), Hot Lead and Cold Feet (1978) and Rooster Cogburn (1975). Toned. Light surface creases. Ink shows through on verso. Otherwise, fine condition.
