WASSILY LEONTIEF. Signature: "Best wishes!/Wassily Leontief", 5½x3¼ blank postcard. Stamped address and ink note on verso, postmarked U.S. Postal Service, N.Y., November 9, 1973. Russian-born and educated economist Leontief (1906-1990) immigrated to the U.S. in 1929. He joined the faculty of Harvard University two years later. Leontief's Nobel Prize in economics (1973) cited him for his creation of the input-output technique. By this method, the variations in the flow of goods from one industry to another can be graphically demonstrated. Economists use his method to analyze, plan, and predict economic changes. Spotted in upper left. Postal cancellation grooves and postmark show through at "Best wishes."
