Showbill for a production of Watergate; A Musical! at Alliance Theatre,
1982. Actor GENE BARRY (1919-2009) starred in radio, stage, film and
television. He is best known for his portrayal of dapper, well-dressed
leading characters in television series. Barry's television works include
Our Miss Brooks, Bat Masterson, Burke's Law and The Name
of the Game. In 1964, Burke's Law won a Golden Globe Award for
Best Television Show; Gene Barry won a Golden Globe Award for Best Television
Star (Male). Always the epitome of diamond-in-the-rough masculinity, Barry
astounded his fans in the mid-1980s by accepting the role of an aging homosexual
in the stage musical version of the French film comedy La Cage Aux
Follies. ED HERLIHY (1909-1999) was a voice personality and
actor, known as the voice of Kraft Foods radio and television commercials.
He began his career in radio in the 1930's, announcing for shows including
America's Town Meeting, The Big Show, The Falcon, Mr. District Attorney, and
Just Plain Bill. It was in 1947 that Herlihy began voicing commercials
for Kraft, also lending his voice to Kraft Television Theater in the 1950's.
He used his distinctive and charming voice to break into a career of acting,
appearing in several films, and a small number of theatre productions. BETTY
C. BARRY (1923-2003), the spouse of actor Gene Barry, had a minor acting
career, making guest appearances on television, and appearing in a small number
of plays. Outside of Watergate; A Musical!, JOHN STEELE has
appeared in a Broadway production of The Maid of the Mountains
(1918). Lightly toned. Light surface creases. Faint stains across top.
