WAYLON JENNINGS. Photograph inscribed and signed: "To Billy -/Thanks!/Waylon/Jennings". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7x8¼ (one surface). Epic Records publicity photograph by Frank Ockenfels 3. Name imprinted at lower margin. Waylon Jennings (1937-2002) was the leader of the "outlaw" movement in country music that rejected the pop music inclinations of Nashville in favor of a rougher, honky-tonk sound. As a young musician, Jennings backed up Buddy Holly (1958-1959) and was with him on his final tour, giving up his seat on the ill-fated plane to the Big Bopper, who had a cold. As a country favorite, Jennings had twenty No. 1 hits, from "I'm a Ramblin' Man" in 1974 to "Rose in Paradise" in 1987, and he earned Grammy Awards in 1969 and 1978. In 1985, Jennings formed the supergroup, The Highwaymen, with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. Ill health (diabetes) and changing tastes in country music cut into his record sales in the nineties, but Jennings remained an immensely popular concert draw. Fine condition.
