WAYLON JENNINGS. Photograph inscribed and signed: "Elaine/Keep up the/good work - You/make the world a/better place./Waylon/Jennings". B/w, 8x10 overall, image 7x8¼ (one surface). Captioned in lower margin. Jennings (1937-2002) was the leader of the "outlaw" movement in country music which rejected the pop music inclinations of Nashville in favor of a rougher, honky-tonk sound. As a young musician, Jennings backed up Buddy Holly (1958-1959) and was with him on his final tour, giving up his seat on the ill-fated plane to the Big Bopper, who had a cold. As a country favorite, Jennings had twenty #1 hits, from "I'm a Ramblin' Man" (1974) to "Rose in Paradise (1987). He earned Grammy Awards in 1969 and 1978. In 1985, Jennings formed the supergroup The Highwaymen with Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. Ill health (diabetes) and changing tastes in country music cut into his record sales in the nineties, but he remained an immensely popular concert draw. Adequate contrast. Fine condition.
