Photograph signed: "Johnny/Wayne", "Frank/Shuster", in blue ink, B/w 5½x3½. Wayne and Shuster was the Canadian comedy duo of JOHNNY WAYNE (1918-1990) and FRANK SHUSTER (1916-2002), popular for their spoofs of everyday events and pop culture. The duo was formed in their native Canada while studying at University of Toronto, performing for the school's theatre and eventually landing a radio show in 1941. They rose to popularity rather over the years, due in part to being a favorite of Ed Sullivan, appearing on his shows a record 67 times. Their most popular sketches were often parodying popular television shows and celebrities, including All In the Family (as All In the Royal Family), Star Trek (as Star Schtick), The Equalizer (as The Tranquilizer), and The Six Million Dollar Man (as The Six Hundred Dollar Man). They also made a number of sketches specific to Canadian audiences, often ribbing on Canadian politics. Later in the 1980's, many of their skits were cut into half-hour syndicated specials, causing a slight resurgence in popularity. Corners slightly worn and creased. Slightly soiled. Slightly toned.
