Wayne Aspinall (1896-1983), a lawyer, teacher and businessman, served in both
World Wars. He was a veteran state legislator who served as Democratic whip and
speaker of the Colorado House and whip and majority and minority leader of the
State's Senate. Then he was elected to the US House of Representatives,
serving for a generation (1949-1973). As Chairman of the House's Interior
and Insular Affairs Committee, he actively promoted Alaskan statehood, achieved
in 1959. Light paperclip impression crosses "yne N" of signature. Otherwise,
fine condition.
