8x10. Wayne Newton (born 1942) began performing at an early age -
mastering the piano, guitar and steel guitar at age 6. Appearing with his older
brother at local clubs and fairs, they were on The Grand Ole Opry
roadshows and auditioned for the Ted Mack's Original Amateur Hour. Moving to the
Phoenix area in 1952, it took until 1958 for a Las Vegas booking agent to
pick-up on them, signing them for two weeks that turned into five years. In 1962
the Newton brothers appeared on The Jackie Gleason Show - where Wayne
would appear twelve times in two years - giving him the exposure needed to get
headline act contracts.A hugely successful Las Vegas nightclub
entertainer, Newton earned the nickname "Mr. Las Vegas" -
performing over 30,000 solo-shows over a 40 year period. He was a
moderately successful pop singer ("Danke Schoen", 1963; "Red Roses For
a Blue Lady", 1965) and appears in occasional films, often in good-natured
self-parodies like Vegas Vacation (1997). Fine condition.
