From 1903-1921, William Christopher Handy (1873-1958), who was known as the "Father of the Blues", conducted his own band. He became a music publisher in the 1920s, becoming the first to codify and publish songs known as "the blues". His own works include "Memphis Blues", "St. Louis Blues" and "Beale Street Blues". Defects from original negative have reproduced on print. Slightly soiled at blank margins, stained at upper right blank edge. Chipped at upper blank edge. Overall, fine condition.
