WEBER & FIELDS: JOE WEBER and LEW FIELDSThis black and white show program is from an event hosted by then-Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt! Program Unsigned: 8½x11¼. Four-page program titled "An Echo from the Rare Old Days". Hosted by Franklin D. Roosevelt during his time as Governor from 1929 to 1932. On verso is a fascinating printed sketch called "Peaches That Bloomed on the Weber and Fields Family Tree". It shows the number of next-generation performers that got their start in show business with the help of Weber & Fields. These performers include Fay Templeton, the McCoy Sisters, and James Cagney JOE WEBER(1867-1942) andLEW FIELDS(1866-1941) formed a vaudeville comedy team which also had some success on film. Their routines included a "Dutch act" in which they portrayed German immigrants. In 1896, they opened theWeber and Fields Music Hall in New York City, a venue for many stars of the era, including Lillian Russell and DeWolf Hopper. Although they stopped working together regular in 1904, they made several films together beginning in 1923, most of them silent. They made their last appearance as a comedy team in the first show at Radio City Music Hall (December 27, 1932). Lightly toned. Creases. Rusty staples at spine (missing pages).
