WENDELL COREY
Handwritten note from actor Wendell Corey, thanking the recipient for "one of the very best interviews"
Autograph note signed "To George/My thanks for/one of the very best interviews/[two illegible lines]/Best Always/Wendell Corey" in blue ink. 1 page, 6½x7¼. Corey (1914-1968) reportedly got his start in acting when he picked up a friend from community theatre. The director asked him to read for a part, and that's all she wrote. He worked his way up to Broadway, with 10 performances on the Great White Way between 1942 and 1959, including the original production of Elmer Rice's Dream Girl (1945-1946). Corey appeared in almost 80 movies and TV shows between 1947 and 1968, including a starring role in Alfred Hitchcock's Rear Window (1954). He was also president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (1961-1963), part of the Board of Directors for the Screen Actors Guild and was elected to the city council for Santa Monica, California in 1956, a position he held until his death. A conservative who campaigned for the Republican Party beginning in 1956, he ran for one of California's United States Congress seats in 1966, losing in the primaries. Mystery Science Theatre 3000 fans may recognize him from the underachieving spy movie Agent from H. A. R. M. (1966). Show-through from adhesive residue and paper loss on verso touches signature and handwriting. Otherwise in fine condition.
