GERMAN LUFTWAFFE PILOTS OF WWII Four Luftwaffe pilots signed this commemorative envelope honoring the 50th Anniversary of the No2 Squadron RAF Regiment Commemorative Envelope Signed: “Wilhem Beier”, “Karl Hulshoff/ Fernnachtjagd/ 1940/41”, “Werner Streib/ 20.7.1940”, and “Jos. Forster [illegible]/ 10.H3.G3”. 6½x4½. Cachet features an image of an Armstrong Whitworth Whitley. Postmarked April 7, 1972, Jersey Channel Islands. Honors the 50th anniversary of the formation of the No. 2 RAF Squadron Regiment. Four-cent stamp affixed. WERNER STREIB (1911-1986) shot down 68 aircraft during World War II. The German Luftwaffe flying ace primarily fought on the Western Front. Streib was awarded the Knight's Cross on October 6, 1940, later earning Oak Leaves and Sword honors. WILHELM BEIER (1913-1977) shot down 38 planes during World War II as a fighter pilot of the German Luftwaffe. He was awarded the Knight's Cross in 1943. KARL HULSHOFF flew for the Luftwaffe and earned 24 victories. JOSEF FORSTER was a German Luftwaffe pilot who shot down two planes over England on March 4, 1945.
