The Mayor of Seattle signs pamphlet describing his job and duties in black ink
Pamphlet signed: "Wes Uhlman" in black ink. 4 pages, 4x7 folded, 8x7 flat. Titled: "Welcom to the Mayor's Office" and features printed photograph of Uhlman. Wes Uhlman (b. 1935)is best remembered as the 47th Mayor of Seattle, Washington. Born and raised in Washington, Uhlman won election as the youngest member of the Washington State House of Representatives at the age of 23, while attending law school at the University of Washington. He served four terms before winning a seat in the Washington State Senate, and eventually was elected mayor in 1969, and reelected in 1973. At the age of 34, he was Seattle's youngest mayor. His tenure is remembered for its progressiveness, during which he won preservation of the historic Pioneer Square district, expansion of services for senior citizens, and proclaimed Seattle's first Gay Pride Weed in 1977 (the following year he also refused to repeal the city's civil right protections for gays and lesbians). After losing out in his run for governor, Uhlman retired from politics and turned to land development. Light surface creases. Corners rounded. Slightly toned. Otherwise, fine condition.
