Coggins, in full: "Absence from home has hitherto prevented me from complying with your request which I have now the pleasure of doing, and remain, your obedient servant". (John) Westland Marston (1819-1890) was an English playwright, poet and literary critic, a friend of Charles Dickens. His tragic poem, "The Patrician's Daughter" (1842) was lauded for its frank portrayal of English class divisions of the era. His son was the blind poet Philip Bourke Marston (1850-1887). Mounting adhesive remnants on verso and in one ¼-inch patch on blank segment of front. Slightly soiled. Otherwise, fine condition.
